Things to Consider When Taking Guitar Chord Lessons
When learning how to play the guitar, the chords tend to be the most difficult thing to master. Learning them can be a massive challenge. To begin with, you are using multiple fingers to play multiple strings all at once! The combinations and finger placements can appear very confusing.
There are a couple of misconceptions when it comes to finger placement. For instance, don’t think that the size of your fingers has anything to do with lack of success. This is absolutely not true. However, most of the problem when playing guitar chords is hand PLACEMENT. You especially need to learn how to properly place your left hand and fingers.
Are you struggling with your lessons? Check to see if your left thumb is positioned high up on the back of the guitar neck. If it is, then the placement is wrong. Your left thumb should sit on the LOWER portion of the back. It needs to be behind the second finger. Sure, it will probably feel uncomfortable at first, but it is the correct posture for many styles.
You need to remember this posture. Sure, it’s simple to play a couple of songs or notes and then return to your old habit, but that will only encourage the bad habit. Remember: practicing good habits is crucial when learning guitar chords.
Common Mistakes
Successfully learning is heavily prevented by lack of support and knowledge. When you are struggling to play a five string chord, you are probably making two big mistakes:
1. For starters, attempting to master a five string chord is a mistake when you’re just learning. Instead, you should focus on a two or three string chord, as they are much easier to learn. Later on down the road you can move on to more complex chords.
2. Secondly, proper placement of the fingers is essential. For instance, it wasn’t until after a few months of playing when I realized that I was practicing incorrectly. The tutorial videos at the Learn & Master Guitar website showed me that I was incorrect with my finger placement.
If you want to learn chords, it is important to learn the correct way, which can be tough without an expert, or at least some type of formal training. However, guitar lessons usually aren’t cheap.
You need to check out a resource such as Learn and Master Guitar. That way, you will have access to many techniques, lessons, and tips that you would learn from a private teacher. The best thing is, these online lessons are way more affordable!
Lessons + Practice = Tons of success!
Make sure you take some lessons, no matter what form they come in. You aren’t going to learn guitar chords and songs without good lessons. Whether you have the money and time for private lessons or simply come across a good lesson online isn’t relevant. Just find yourself a good lesson, learn from it, and practice!
Practice is crucial. It’s recommended that you set aside a half hour to an hour every single day for guitar practice. This may not seem like a lot of time, but it’s actually best to not play more than a half hour or so each day. This is because you may become more or pick up bad habits. Instead, just set aside 30 minutes or so every day and make sure there are no distractions.
Spend a good fifteen minutes focused exclusively on the chords. Begin with basic and simple chords. Within a couple of weeks, you will not only play them like a pro, but you will also switch back and forth between them with ease!
Successful guitar chords learning requires practice and dedication just as much as it requires skill. Make up your mind that you are going to learn no matter what! You really can do this. Remember that chords are pretty much the foundation for every song, therefore you should be able to play a TON of great songs once you learn the chords!
Are you ready to dive in and get some awesome video lessons so that you can learn from the pros?

Beginner Guitar Tab Lessons
Guitar Tab, it’s the first music that most beginner guitar players learn to use. Of course when you see it for the first time it may not make a lot of sense to you. If you’ve used a learn to play guitar dvd or other guitar lesson program they tend to introduce tab early on in their lessons since it’s the easiest form of musical notation to understand. If this is your first intro to guitar tab don’t worry I’ll go easy on you, and if you’re using a guitar lesson course at home rest assured you will have some lessons on reading tab.
In this article you’ll learn how to create tabs, how to read them and how to play guitar tabs. After you read this guitar tab lesson you should be able to read most basic tabs and understand how to play them. Starting out take your time learning tabs, it’s a good idea to master a song or piece from a tab slow first then add speed, accuracy is what makes a great guitar player.
Let’s get started
How Guitar Tab is Constructed
A guitar tab is like looking at your guitar neck if the guitar was in the case. A guitar tab has 6 lines, one for each string on your guitar. The top line of guitar tab corresponds to the first string on your guitar or the high E. The bottom string on a guitar tab corresponds to the sixth string or your low E string.
Here’s a quick example
1st ——–
2nd ——–
3rd ——–
4th ——–
5th ——–
6th ——–
Understanding the Notes of Guitar Tab
The second part of reading guitar tabs is knowing which note or fret to play on each string. The nice thing about tab is you don’t need to know note names, it’s all about playing particular frets on particular strings.
Here’s another example
1st -2——
2nd ——–
3rd ——–
4th —–6–
5th ——–
6th ——-3
The numbers on each line in the above tab are telling you which fret to press down on which string. In the above example you’re to play the second fret on the first string, then the sixth fret on the fourth string followed by the third fret on the sixth string.
A full song tabbed will look just like the above example with lines and numbers. Some songs will be all single notes on one or two strings while others will have full tabbed chords to play. There’s an example chord tabbed below, it’s a C major chord.
1st ———
2nd –1—–
3rd —2—-
4th ——–
5th —3—-
6th —x—-
Above it the right fingering for a C major chord. You might have noticed the ‘x’ on the sixth string, this is something we haven’t looked at before the X means you do not play this string. This usually appears for tabbed chords so if you see an X skip that string when strumming.
Using this lesson you’ll be able to learn the majority of popular songs on the guitar using tabs. Of course there are more advanced parts of guitar tablature that you’ll need to learn such as slides and hammer ons or offs, but this will get you started.
Quality guitar lesson dvd will help you with more advanced parts of learning guitar tabs. I’d urge you to continue to learn beyond just what this guitar tab lesson will teach you. Understanding how to read music and more advanced guitar skills will allow you to grow as a musician.

The Gibson SG EDS-1275: Two times the Rocking Power
Guitar shifting between 6-string and 12-string configuration without changing instruments has been made possible by the Gibson-EDS-1275 double necked guitar.
When you see a Gibson Double Neck EDS-1275, it may seem familiar because it is also the one used by Led Zeppelin’s lead guitarist Jimmy Page when he played the song “Stairway to Heaven”.
Using his Gibson-EDS-1275, he managed to play the whole song without stopping to switch instruments.
Today, Gibson has re-launched the well famed double-neck guitar.
It still holds on to the classic look and feel of the old Gibson-EDS-1275, yet it is improved through modern methods of guitar making. Initially, the EDS-1275 Double neck was introduced as a hollow body guitar way back in 1958. Decades may have passed but this guitar is still a sought-for item for both guitarists and collectors.
Even if Jimmy Page is the one who popularized it, you can embark on your own rock journey and make your own history!
This guitar is made by hand in Nashville and the two necks are made of solid-maple, both are attached to a classic SG body made of solid mahogany wood for that unique and solid tone. These are made to match the classic Gibson 1960s super slim taper neck, the one Jimmy Page fell in love with.
This double neck’s fingerboards are crafted from solid rosewood, each neck have 20 frets. EDS-1275 Double necks has a classic looking rosewood fretboard that have pearloid tilted diamond pattern for inlays, it also has a single ply binding.
This Gibson double neck EDS 1275 has two PAF type pickups. A 490 Alnico humbucker pickup installed for the bridge pickup and a 498 humbucker pickup installed for the neck pickup. This setting is applied on both the six string and the twelve strings. The SG EDS-1275 Double Neck Guitar features genuine tune-o-matic bridges in addition to vintage tuners and three-way selector switches installed to both guitars. Both the 6 string and the 12 string guitars have their own separate volume controls.
The guitar package comes with a certificate of authenticity, a Gibson customer care kit and a hardshell case. The EDS-1275 Jimmy Page used has a slight difference in terms of body shape compared to the present model.
Over the years, the shape of the guitar body was changed. Unlike the current 3 piece maple setup, the one Jimmy Page used uses a one piece mahogany bi-neck setup. Its tailpieces are situated close to the guitar body’s base and the PAF humbucker pickups. Just recently, Gibson has released the Jimmy Page Signature model of the EDS-1275 double neck guitar. It has an additional feature that fixes the main flaw of the EDS-1275. The EDS-1275 was nicknamed as “The Aerial” because it known to pick up radio interferences. Jimmy Page’s EDS-1275 double neck guitar has a ground connection that is installed between the 6-string tailpiece and the jack; this is added to eliminate or reduce any unwanted humming sounds due to interferences.
Follow Jimmy Page’s example or simply create your own road to stardom while wielding the Gibson EDS-1275 Double neck guitar.

You Can Connect Your Laptop to Your Hifi System in These Easy Steps
Laptop computers have become popular, partly because they are very portable. They have a number of uses in our lives, from work (word processing, catching up on email and work on the go) and play (browsing the Internet, playing media files and gaming online). The flexibility, functionality and portability of a laptop means that it is ideal for connecting to other parts of your life, in different areas of your home. One example of this is connecting your laptop to the technology on your hifi stand.
If you want to connect your laptop to your hi-fi system, it’s important to make sure you have the right equipment. You will need a laptop with a sound card, a program to play the media files, a 3.5mm male auxiliary cable, and a hifi stand. Many of the newer systems have an auxiliary in, it looks a lot like a headphone port, but some of the older ones don’t. If your system doesn’t have an auxiliary in don’t worry. There is a solution. You can obtain a connector cable, such as a 3.5mm female to 2 RCA male. A hifi is built to work with a stripped down section of wire, so make sure to consult the manual for your model. There you wil find what connector is appropriate.
As for the software, most operating systems come with a media player. Windows has the windows media player, and Mac OS has iTunes and QuickTime. There are some free alternatives, if you don’t have or want those featured on your machine. Such as VLC media player, which is built for most platforms. For other programs, Google free media player, or visit sourceforge.net
Now you’re ready to connect it up:
- Ensure your hifi system is plugged in and turned on
- and your laptop is powered up and you’re logged in
- Connect the 3.5mm auxiliary cable to the line out jack on your laptop and the auxiliary in jack on your hifi stand.
- If you necessary, set your systems input to auxiliary
- Try playing a media file to check the sound quality
Due to differences in the capabilities of individual systems, and other factors, your sound quality may not be as good as normal. Luckily, there are a few tips that have helped others and may be just what you need. First you should check the frequencies and equalizer on your hi-fi system. Then check to make sure your computers output volume is at the right levels. Another possible way to increase the sound quality is to plug the auxiliary cable into the headphone jack on your computer, instead of the line out jack. When the program is open, check that the equalizer levels are what you’d expect and that they look good on your laptop’s sound manager too.
Sometimes things go wrong, and here are some common istakes made when connecting a laptop to a hifi system. Firstly, make sure that all of the wires and cables are plugged in properly, pulling the hifi system forwards or moving the laptop could have caused some of them to come loose. If they are in plugged in properly and still don’t work, it could be that one of them is faulty – this is more likely if you bought a used or second-hand wire. Check to see if they work on another piece of AV equipment to test. Make sure your laptops sound works, try playing something through the internal speakers if your laptop has them. Also make sure your speakers are good.

Acoustic Guitar for Beginner
If you’re reading this it’s because you want to learn to play the acoustic guitar. This instrument has a melodic sound and the ability to provoke a great deal of emotion, in the right hands.
The Basics Of Acoustic Guitar
It doesn’t matter if you have decided to learn simply because you want a hobby or if it’s to try and start a band. There are many great benefits that you can get from knowing how to play.
Personally, I think that the acoustic guitar sounds better than an electric guitar. Why you ask? Well, it’s because of the more natural sounds that you get from it. You can make it either loud or soft like an electric guitar, but you will always be able to hear the vocals over it and you can use the acoustic guitar for any kind of music. It’s also a lot easier to move around with you seeing as though you don’t need an amp to make it work.
Learning to play acoustic guitar can be a bit tricky at first, but it does get easier the more you practice. If you work at it steadily for a couple of years you will be playing like a pro.
It’s really not that hard, I promise. Just follow these five basic acoustic guitar lessons:
First: Find a guitar that feels right. There are different sizes so make sure you are comfortable with the one you have. Also, it does not have to be expensive. Actually, I recommend getting a cheaper one to learn on and then get a better one later.
Second: Make a schedule. You should practice for at least a half hour to an hour (no more) at least 5 to 7 days a week. If you practice for more then an hour at a time that is when you will start to pick up bad habits.
Third: Don’t try to start out playing chords right away. You need to get comfortable with holding the guitar and also learn how each string sounds. So, start out by simply holding the guitar the correct way and pluck each string up and down the guitar until you are familiar with each sound.
Fourth: Once you’ve gotten stringing the strings without having to look at them, move onto the neck Now you can practice playing actual notes. Make sure that you keep your left hand in the right position and listen to how each note sounds.
Fifth: Now that you have all that you can start playing chords. Start out with the easy ones first. These would be “E Minor”, “A Minor”, and “D Minor”. Once you have these down then you can move onto the harder ones to learn.
Many people choose to take beginner acoustic guitar instruction through a private instructor, but I don’t feel as though this is necessary. I’m not saying it’s a bad way to go, I just think you can easily learn on your own.
The thing with private acoustic guitar lessons is they can get to be quite expensive and they take up extra time when you consider the travel time to and from the lesson.
The good thing about an instructor is they work directly with you in a one on one setting. There is one down fall though and that is some times you run into someone that is more interested in getting paid then actually helping you learn to play the acoustic guitar. Also, there is a chance that you might run into a teacher that has an excess in students and is not quite as personable as you would like them to be due to the overload of work.
Some people don’t like to learn new things with an audience, regardless of the size and find it difficult to play in front of another person, especially one that is more experienced. Many prefer to learn to play in a private area where no one is around to see them,
When I first took an interest in the acoustic guitar I looked into getting an instructor, but found it to be very expensive. I mean it was $150 a month and you only got 2 lessons a week. I couldn’t really justify paying that so I decided to learn on my own. On issue with this is sometimes you can’t quite grasp the fundamentals without a little assistance. This is mainly because you don’t know enough about the techniques or even the guitar.
The good thing is in today’s society we have this handy little thing called a computer and the Internet. On there you can find some really great online acoustic guitar lessons. I used Jamorama Acoustic, which was very helpful. This is a video download course that provides you with all the material, techniques, tricks and lessons that you need in order to get started playing.
The nice thing about the online course is that it teaches you everything you need to know without having to go outside of your house to get it. Another great thing about this course is it’s a one time only fee rather then a month to month one, and you fit it into your schedule instead of fitting your schedule around an instructor. This makes it much easier to stick with and you have the power of being able to rewind if you don’t quite get something or even fast forward if you already know a part of the lesson.
If you are going to start playing the acoustic guitar I would definitely recommend getting a course that you can learn from home. This is a personal preference though and not everyone will think the same way. When it really comes down to it, it depends on the individual and what they are comfortable with, and how much you want to invest in learning to play the acoustic guitar.
