Regarding Popular Music (Answer If You Get Music)?
Please only answer if you understand music..
Would the Pop/Rock genres improve if artists chose to work within the AABA (pop) song format? It seems to me that back when songs had to follow that format (when songs couldn’t be longer than 3 minutes for radio play), even groups that sucked could put together decent material. Today, it’s like even the bands with talent and vision produce work that’s too self consiously arty/epic, and lack restraint and focus. I wonder if some of the rising “indie” bands (probably the only worthy scene in rock just because they emulate the ’60s sound) would be creating great, focused masterpieces if there were more theory/conciseness involved.. I understand the Beatles (arguably) opened up the possibilities of pop/rock music with Revolver/Sgt. Pepper, but too much freedom has created a lot of crap (though restrictions do suck too). I would argue that there are no classic records being made; there are definitely good ones, but no masterpieces..I don’t know..
